I recently went to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin on a mini road trip. The land of cheese and all things dairy. I’m back to report: THERE’S VEGAN FOOD IN WISCONSIN…. AND it’s delicious.
My Wisconsin amiga, Morgan Shea (@mosheaa), a plant-based fitness queen, showed me allll of the best spots in Milwaukee. Thanks to Morgan I was able to create this list and experience #veganMilwaukee!
Beerline Cafe
Beerline Cafe is a low-environmental-impact vegetarian “fresh-casual” cafe. The cafe is rated a four-star Green Restaurant Association rating, the first restaurant in the state of Wisconsin to obtain a high rating!
I ate a Thanksgiving-inspired crepe, BBQ jackfruit tacos, Mac and Teese, and kombucha to drink (pictured above)!
Rating: 10/10
Recommendation: BBQ jackfruit tacos and Mac and Teese
Price: $$
Strange Town
Strange Town is where all the chic vegans go. It’s a tiny space with maybe 10 tables. My friend and I walked in for dinner at around 5:30pm, the server told us their next available table was 3 hours from now. We humbly waited for a few seats at the bar. I recommend reserving ahead of time.
The ambiance gets a 10/10. There was a man playing vinyl records behind us. Perfect date night spot!
The food is a bit pricey and small portions. If you are on a budget, I recommend eating beforehand and getting a glass of wine and a few appetizers to split. Their wine list is extensive with organic and female made options. YAS!
Rating: 8.5/10
Recommendation: Kimchi noodles
Price: $$
Blooming Lotus Bakery
I’M SCREAMING this bakery is EVERYTHING.
Blooming Lotus Bakery is free of gluten, sugar, oils, soy, AND it’s vegan. *crying* The best and most important part, it’s delicious.
The founder’s battle with Crohn’s disease inspired her to open up a Yoga Center and 15 years later Blooming Lotus Bakery to provide safe, healthy food for families with dietary restrictions. She was able to get off all medication and free of symptoms because of Iyengar yoga practice and the right diet to sustain her health.
Her story is inspiring, but the cinnamon rolls would keep me coming back for years!!!
Rating: 9.5/10
Recommendation: Cinnamon rolls and scones
Price: $
On the Bus (Milwaukee Public Market)
On the Bus is located inside Milwaukee Public Market. There are loads of cafes, restaurants, gift shops. On the Bus has everything you would ever need. Acai bowls, nice cream, sandwiches, smoothies, and more!
On the Bus’ belief is that vegan food can be JUST as delicious, if not better, than their non-plant based competitors.
Rating: 9/10
Recommendation: Blue peanut bowl
Price: $

Kickapoo Coffee
Kickapoo Coffee has a beautiful open space with tasty oat milk lattes. It’s the perfect spot for an afternoon pick-me-up. The ambiance and decor are 10/10!

Babe’s Ice Cream
Vegan’s love ice-cream too. Thanks to Babe’s Ice-cream for designing a special vegan menu loaded with ice cream cakes, shakes, brownies, sandwiches, and vegan toppings!!

Holey Moley Coffee + Donuts
Any place with vegan donut options, I’m going to automatically recommend. Holey Moley’s donuts are scratch-made from whole, quality ingredients and offer a wide variety of gluten-free and VEGAN options!
