Puerto Vallarta is a city that has it all. There is SO much to do. Everything from waterfall hikes to live drag performances to open markets to meditation on the beach; Puerto Vallarta truly has something for everyone.

Best Neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta to Explore
1. Head to La Marina for a nighttime walk and romantic dinner at El Faro Lighthouse Bar
2. Check out Versalles for amazing food and cafes (see best restaurants below)
3. Wander up and down the streets of 5 De Diciembre for shopping, street art, and tasty restaurants
4. Head to my favorite neighborhood, Zona Romantica, known as the gayborhood of Puerto Vallarta, for food, shopping, queer bars, the gay beach, queer nightlife, and more.

5. Walk along the malecón

7. Hike to El Mirador
8. Do a free walking tour (Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am and 12pm, and every Saturday at 9am. Tour leaves from the Tourist Office) Or, for a more accessible option: do the Hop On, Hop Off Bus that takes you all around PV and lets you stop at various tourist points.
9. Check out the art galleries (There’s an art walk every Wednesday night starting at 6pm, click here for a map and here for more information)
10. Spend the day at the Botanical gardens (you can take a bus or Uber here. If you prefer a guided tour: you could opt for this highly rated Vallarta Botanical Garden and Tequila Tasting Tour or Hiking to Vallarta Botanical Garden Tour)
11. Take a boat tour to Islas Marietas (explore the “The Galapagos Islands of Mexico,” most tours include entrance fee/National Park fees, snorkeling, food, and transit. It’s not the most affordable thing to do in Puerto Vallarta, but definitely worth it! Make sure to bring at least 600 pesos cash for boarding fee and hidden beach ticket)
12. Take a day trip to Sayulita (bus leaves from Versalles neighborhood in front of Tarantinos and Takos El Tizok, 50 pesos, about 1 hour or take an Uber. I highly recommend renting a golf cart and exploring the town! If you prefer a tour, I found this highly rated full-day group tour that takes you to Sayulita and San Pancho.)

There are several beaches to check out around Puerto Vallarta. I recommend seeing them ALL, but if you only have time for one beach excursion, take the bus (or Uber/taxi) south to Playa Boca de Tomates, a small fishing village and beach.
